I’m Elena:
high-energy, low-maintenance, and happiest when in motion (especially on two wheels). Besides that, I am relentlessly curious, irrepressibly organized, and always grammatically correct.

Above all, I’m thrilled you are here! I think you’ll find that you and I have some things in common. TRR

Like, have you ever learned a lesson from your dogs? Or found yourself in an unsatisfying relationship? Or had one of those days when you look around and feel as though everyone knows more than you do? Or experienced an epiphany while watching inmates play charades? Yeah, me too.

NPSHave you ever lived in the attic of a haunted, historic bed and breakfast? Taught young musicians to play the cello? Have you served as the foreperson of a jury and persuaded 10 jurors to change their minds? Ever cover thousands of miles on foot over 11 summers as an NPS backcountry ranger? I have.

All that good stuff went down in my previous life. Since 2002, I have been active in education as a teacher, mentor, and ed tech leader. I even have some fancy-ish credentials to prove it:

  • National Board Certified Teacher, English Language Arts
  • Certified Master Teacher, Colorado Department of Education
  • MA in Instruction and Curriculum, University of Colorado at Boulderwater dance

Community is important to me, so I am especially grateful you are here, and I hope you’ll come back; you can subscribe to my blog using one of the links at the bottom of this page (below the comments)—and spread the word, too!

Interesting! What’s the significance of 186 days! Is that the number of days school is in session?

Close! It’s the number of days in a teacher’s contract in my school district. Students attend school for 172 days.

  3. Awesome introduction Elena! You’ve piqued my curiosity, and I’m excited to read your posts. I also taught in the public school system (NC) almost twenty years ago in my previous life. Stepping away to reassess what you are intentional about in life is so brave. I wish you nothing but success. Crystal

Very accurate description of you! I didn’t know about the haunted house….a little creeped out! This is what you were meant to do even though some of it goes over my head. How were you ever friend with me? Ha!
